The Academic Intervention program addresses the needs of regular education students who may be on 504 plans (accommodations for documented lifelong disability), who receive Title 1 services, or who would benefit from academic interventions and study skills instruction to support school performance. The program consists of focused instruction in a number of areas, including: getting settled and ready for work, maintaining attention, organizing and managing time and materials, test preparation/test taking, planning long term projects, note taking, outlining, and listening. The actual strategies and schedule of support is based on the constellation of the identified needs, and is available to students on a short or long term basis as need warrant.
The support takes several forms, including individual and small group sessions focused on specific skills; drop-in time for students needing to get organized for the school day; facilitation of communication among student's teachers; large group instruction as appropriate; coaching; and other strategies.
